woven Meisen silk Haori
Meisen style kimono are made from individually dyed threads that are then woven to make a pattern, creating a soft edge that creates a "blur" or Ikat effect. Made most popular in the 1920s and 30s, Haori, Michiyuki and komon Kimono made in the woven Meisen method were worn mostly as everyday or home wear.
The patterns created resemble modern art paintings and the ease of wear make them perfect for lounging in a fun and beautiful way.
Most Meisen kimono fabrics are silk or cotton with a polished cotton feel, a little more starched or structured in the feel until they become worn in over time, like a great pair of jeans
A new or NOS Meisen woven fabric will need to be worn in and softened over time.
THIS particular Meisen Haori is NOS
Cocoa background with a blurred Ikat pattern in white, blue, yellow, black and red.
a gorgeous red silk floral pattern lines the bodice and sleeves with giant plum blossoms and blue birds
perfect for use as robe, jacket or lounging
woven polished silk - you will need to wear this jacket in for a more comfortable feel
Excellent vintage condition- NOS small amount of staining from 70 years of storage
cannot easily be seen, does not detract
- the tailors thread is still attached along the length of the collar as well, so that it stands up as is traditionally worn, you may wish to remove this thread so that the collar lays flat when wearing. One can easily remove these threads if wearing or keep if collecting
small white ribbon is included in the front tabs
